Day 3 - Seltjarnarnes

On way back from the Blue Lagoon we rode by Seltjarnarnes.

Seltjarnarnes is one of the oldest municipalities in Iceland and originally covered the majority of Reykjavik. Today the landscape of Seltjarnarnes is surrounded by the ocean on the north, west, and south coastlines.

Seltjarnarnes prides itself with the amazing bird life within the town limits. The biggest bird area is within the West Area, by Grótta and Bakkatjörn. About 106 different bird species have stayed in the area for shorter or longer time periods. Over half of the bird population is Icelandic layer birds. Among the "guests" is the tern, the goose, the duck, and the eiderduck. The coastline and beaches of Seltjarnarnes is also occupied with a variety of bird life and unique flora.

We took some very nice pics from the tip of the peninsula and also had the opportunity to meet an Icelandic bike rider and we discussed different things to do in the next weeks as we ride around Iceland.

Day 3 - Blue Lagoon

Today it was overcast so we decided to go to the Blue Lagoon.

We had had mixed reports. Some people loved it, others hated it.

We had a good time and would recommend going as once in a lifetime experience.

We did not do pre-booking and arrived at the lagoon at 3pm. We were told everything was full up. Some begging was done and eventually they told us we could wait on a waiting list. We do recommend pre-booking as it saves the hassle and prices are also lower than buying on-site.

In the meantime, we said we were going to eat lunch which we did. In the middle of lunch, they told us we could buy the tickets. We stood in line and eventually made it to the ticket office. We were given a very nice bracelet which we could use to lock and unlock our lockers. And for Paula we got a robe and slippers.

They have a very nice video that one can watch to understand better the process and what is available. Check it out

I must say that although one pays a lot, the level of cleanliness and organization is very good and at no time during our stay we felt uncomfortable which could happen with so many people in one place.

You can drink while in the lagoon and one drink is actually included in the package. I had a fruit juice with ginger and carrot and Paula a rasberry smoothie made with skyr.

They had a great service which was a young lady with an iPad taking pictures of our experience. On the spot she asked for our email and when we came out we had the pics sent with a special message thanking us for our visit and offering us the option of reliving our experience as we saw the pics. So simple but so powerful ...

The road to get to the lagoon is amazing with lava fields bordering it and as we get close there is lagoon water by the road which gives an amazing sight together with the black lava fields.

As a final recommendation, if you ever go to this unique place, ensure you take a waterproof camera. The picture opportunities are amazing and you can take pics at will.

All the Pics for Day 2

Today we did The Golden Circle, about 300 km looping from Reykjavík into central Iceland and back. It is the area that contains most tours and travel related activities in Iceland.

The road conditions were good (although we got a bad spot that they were working on it and made it difficult for two wheels).

The biggest enemy for us on a motorcycle will be the wind. As Iceland does not have many trees (at least where we traveled) the wind is very strong. We had it against us, mainly coming from a NW direction as we travelled North and with us on the way back.

We also caught some rain and were very surprised on how quick the weather changes from being sunny to overcast in a matter of. minutes.

The ride experience is amazing as the views are constantly changing. Paula was very busy on the back clicking away and we have a large number of pics taken on the bike in moe event to give the perspective of what we were seeing.

We mainly stopped in 5 places

Kerid Crater

Gullfoss Water Falls

Geysir

Thingvalavatn Lake

Thingvellir National Park (where we saw it down below by the water and up on top of the rocks)

They are all amazing and different, but the number one for us is the National Park. There is so much to see and everywhere you look you find a different photo opportunity. Unfortunately it is difficult to catch the immense wall and the beautiful green and the amazing mountains all around.

We could go back now (and lots of the 2-3 day tourists do) and we would be happy and amazed at Iceland already. But we have much more to do ...

Enjoy ...

Today we did the Golden Circle.

It was amazing and showed us what is to come. Different from everything else we have seen. Nature as it should be ... unspoilt.

Did it anti-clockwise and saw
