Day 3 - Blue Lagoon

Today it was overcast so we decided to go to the Blue Lagoon.

We had had mixed reports. Some people loved it, others hated it.

We had a good time and would recommend going as once in a lifetime experience.

We did not do pre-booking and arrived at the lagoon at 3pm. We were told everything was full up. Some begging was done and eventually they told us we could wait on a waiting list. We do recommend pre-booking as it saves the hassle and prices are also lower than buying on-site.

In the meantime, we said we were going to eat lunch which we did. In the middle of lunch, they told us we could buy the tickets. We stood in line and eventually made it to the ticket office. We were given a very nice bracelet which we could use to lock and unlock our lockers. And for Paula we got a robe and slippers.

They have a very nice video that one can watch to understand better the process and what is available. Check it out

I must say that although one pays a lot, the level of cleanliness and organization is very good and at no time during our stay we felt uncomfortable which could happen with so many people in one place.

You can drink while in the lagoon and one drink is actually included in the package. I had a fruit juice with ginger and carrot and Paula a rasberry smoothie made with skyr.

They had a great service which was a young lady with an iPad taking pictures of our experience. On the spot she asked for our email and when we came out we had the pics sent with a special message thanking us for our visit and offering us the option of reliving our experience as we saw the pics. So simple but so powerful ...

The road to get to the lagoon is amazing with lava fields bordering it and as we get close there is lagoon water by the road which gives an amazing sight together with the black lava fields.

As a final recommendation, if you ever go to this unique place, ensure you take a waterproof camera. The picture opportunities are amazing and you can take pics at will.
