Day 8 - Hofdi

For me one of the most beautiful places we visited we did it by "chance". It was not in our plan as we had not read or heard about it.

We were paying for lunch at the barn cafe and I decided to ask the young lady that was at the counter about places to see in the area and she mentioned Hofdi. She said it was place that you could see small islands on Lake Myvatn and showed us a picture.

We arrived at Hofdi and there was no car at the parking lot and the gate seemed to be closed and we felt that it was closed as it was already late in the day.

It turned out that it was not closed and you could just get in by lifting the latch and pushing the gate open.

As we walked on a quiet gravel road we noticed a sign saying that there was a foot path and we decided to walk off the beaten path. And what a great decision that was. The vegetation was a beautiful green and now and then we could see the Lake from up above and see the ever present bird life that Iceland has to offer.

The path finally finished on a dead end where one could sit and just see the Lake, the islands, the birds and ever so present the white peak mountains. What a glorious sight ...

On the way out we were attacked by insects (the small light colored dots on the pics below) and had to quickly put on our helmets to ensure survival. Absolutely crazy ...

We loved Hofdi !
