Day 5 - On the East Coast close to Hofn

Today was an easy motorcycle riding day (we rode about 150 Kms) to visit sites close by where we were staying. We stayed in a guesthouse close to the mountain and glaciers and closest town was Hofn.

We decided that first on the agenda was ride as close as we could get to a glacier and then walk and if possible touch the glacier.

The ride in the morning was majestic as the sun was out but enough cloud cover to make it interesting mixed with the beautiful backdrop of Iceland mountainous terrain and long straights close to the sea.

Special attention had to be taken with sheep as they roam freely around and can appear on the road anywhere.

The glaciers bordering the road are amazing ...

After an 8km dirt road we arrived at the trail end. We left the motorcycle and started our walk.

First we needed to cross an ondulading bridge that was suspended over the river. Interesting experience.

The terrain was a combination of boulders and small rocks.

The picture opportunities were everywhere

We had to walk narrow paths to get closer ...

And the views kept getting better ...

Paula, The Conqueror of the Glacier ...

We then moved on to Hofn. We were about 30 Kms away but the terrain was one of the most spectacular we have seen. The views changed completely in minutes.

Hofn is a very small but picturesque town. The harbor is an highlight ...

But to really feel the place one needs to go to the very tip and look 360 degrees. The combination of sea, little town, mountains and glaciers at the distance and the myriads of birds flying and making noise is an unique experience.

As we are sitting there and look towards the sea, we see this white thick cloud coming in and the temperature drop very fast and in less than 10 minutes all the beautiful sites were engulfed by a thick fog.

We had not eaten anything since our late breakfast so it was time to take a break and enjoy one of the specialities of Hofn, langoustines. My friend and ex-colleague Lauri Kivinen from Finland, also a bike rider had been earlier in the year here and strongly recommended Humarhofnin. So we stopped there, told the story of Lauri to the waiter and were given one of the best services we have had. The young lady did not want Lauri to ever be called a liar. So if you ever come to Hofn, tell the story of Lauri and now Armando and enjoy the ride ...

We then stopped for gas and bought some sweet goodies. Nice ...

The way back was amazing as we had the clouds and scenery changing on us constantly. 35Kms and les than one hour and check the variety. Unique ...

Another amazing day ! To close, I leave with this great piece of creativity and color ...
