Day 10 - Motorcycle Museum in Akureyri

As we looked for things to do in Akureyri, Paula discovered that there was a motorcycle museum very close by.

We decided to visit on ....

The museum was started when a well known motorcyclist died and they had a number of his bikes. One of the rooms of the museum is dedicated to Heidar P. Johannsson.

There you can see his bikes, trophies and a number of pictures and some of his sayings. Pretty cool when your friends remember you by creating a museum ...

Over the years it seems to have grown and now the two-storied building is full of motorcycles. Some small, others big, older, newer, various makes and for varied use. It was very nice to see history unfold by seeing and reading about these motorcycles.

They also had a room fully dedicated to woman motorcyclists in Iceland.

This was very interesting as they had different type of bikes used by women and stories of clubs as well as of special pioneers of motorcycling in Iceland.

The very first woman to use a motorcycle, in the summer of 1939 was Helga !

At the end we bought a t-shirt that I will now proudly wear throughout the world and every time I will put it on I will remember this very nice visit.
